Ramenya Mitsuba

The one, the legendary Mitsuba. Forever on my list of shops to visit, I had a random day off and decided to wake up early and make the trek to Nara to visit it. I arrived 30 minutes before opening, but for some reason the shop let me right in and sit down. I had been expecting lunch ramen, but instead I got breakfast.

The Bowl
These pork-chicken, bubbly ramen bowls are somewhat popular these days, and Mitsuba's may be the finest, if not the first. The waves of soup are buttery smooth, and have a nice arc from sweet first sip to savory aftertaste. The onions mixed in bring a slight change of flavor that keeps it fresh and from being to meaty. The noodles were round and balanced; a light and airy touch above the thick soup. The egg and chashu both were well-seasoned, the pork tasting like almost like pancetta.

Would I Go Again?

Should You Go?

And what would a trip to Nara be without a stop to hang out with some deer?
