Ryuzo

As I mentioned earlier, one of my main goals of my trip to Sendai was to eat beef tongue, a Sendai specialty. And a feast of beef tongue I did eat.

前に行っていたように、仙台に行く目的が牛タンを食べることです。それでいっぱい牛タンを食べました。

Even for someone who can eat an absurd amount of the same food, this was a bit much. It was all delicious, I guarantee you, but I felt the oil and meatiness of the beef for the rest of the day. The other Sendai specialty is zunda mochi.

私はいっぱい同じ物をずっと食べられますけど、牛タンだったら、ちょっとやりすぎました。ほんまにうまかったですけど、脂とうまみが多すぎて、一日中感じました。仙台はずんだ餅でも有名です。

Zunda mochi is ground edamame sweetened like red bean, wrapped around mochi. If that sounds weird, that's because it is. But it's sweet, and not bad. With one more day of our trip, my friend and I decided to use the opportunity to try one more ramen shop. This time Ryuzo: miso ramen in the style of neighboring prefecture Yamagata.

ずんだ餅はあんこみたいなつぶした枝豆で作られます。変ですけど、甘くてなんかうまかったです。旅行のもう一日があったので、その機会でもう一回ラーメンを食べようと思っていました。山形県スタイル味噌ラーメン屋さん「りゅうぞう」に行きました。

The Bowl
Nothing's better on a mid-June afternoon than a spicy bowl of miso ramen. It was an oily bowl of miso that might not have been anything special on its own, but the spice really knocked it up a notch. It provided a good kick, and some nice peppery flavor. The noodles were a bit thick and hard, but they went well with the spicy broth.

夏になるときに辛いラーメンを食べるのが変かもしれませんけど、いつでも辛いものが食べられます。脂っぽい味噌ラーメンが普通においしかったですけど、香辛料と辛味噌でさらにうまくなりました。ピリ辛になって、唐辛子っぽい味もちょっとしました。麺が太くてかたかったですけど、辛くてとろりがあるスープに合いました。

Would I Go Again?
Yeah, I love miso, and it was pretty good.

辛味噌が好きでおいしかったので、また行きたいです。

Kuroku

Vacation time! It had been too long since my previous vacation (or not very long at all) and it was time to go to a new place. This time was Sendai, the biggest city in the north of Honshu, and my first time in Tohoku. My friend and I went with the intention of eating some beef tongue, and watching a baseball game.

旅行！前の旅行は最近でしたけど、また新しいところに行きたかったです。今回仙台に行くことになりました。本州の北のほうの一番人が多い都市で東北にはじめて行くチャンスでした。友達と一緒に行って、牛タンを食べて野球の試合を見に行くつもりでした。

The baseball game was Eagles vs Tigers, and since the Tigers are super popular, even when they're not in Kansai, it meant that we couldn't get tickets to the game. We headed back to Sendai Station with our heads down.

野球の試合が楽天対阪神で、関西じゃなくても阪神が人気のため、チケットが売り切れました。がっかりしながら仙台駅に戻りました。

Luckily we weren't sad for long. We saw this amazing display of the Suica penguin dressed up as Sendai hero Date Masamune, and after that, it was time to eat. Beef tongue was for dinner, but for lunch was some well-reviewed Sendai shoyu ramen.

でも、びっくりしてちょっと盛り上がることができました。かわいい伊達政宗の仮装しているスイカペンギンが見えました。牛タンを晩ご飯に食べるつもりだったので、評価がいい醤油ラーメンを昼ご飯で食べることにしました。

The Bowl
I got the black shoyu, and black it was. It was a rich, deep shoyu, similar to the Takaida style of ramen that I've had a number of times back in Osaka. Similarly, the noodles were thick, and soaped in the soup like a hard sponge. The giant pieces of menma and chashu may have gotten stuck in my teeth, but it was worth it for a bowl like this.

黒醤油らぁめんを頼んで、名前通り黒かったです。大阪によくある高井田系ラーメンみたいに深い醤油でした。かたくて太い麺がスープの味をおいしく吸収しました。メンマとチャーシューがでかくて食べてから楊子がいりましたけど、うまかったです。

Would I Go Again?
If I lived in Sendai, I would. Since I don't, I'd probably check out a new place if I visit again.
